All About My Nails | BLOGMAS No. 21

I get a lot of questions regarding my nails, in real life too! I wanted to clarify how I get my nails done and how long they take to grow, all of your questions answered in this post!

I used to get acrylics in University because that was very popular in LA where I grew up, everyone had their nails done. When I got to university I quickly found out not every girl got their nails done. Even if they did get their nails done it was just a regular manicure, until I met a few Asian friends that were from Irvine and Arcadia. They introduced me to gel and growing out your nails. Then I became obsessed with growing my nails and finding a great nail tech. Now this is harder than you may think. When I went with my friends they would translate and it would be fine, however on my own it was a different story. I even got told once that they had never seen me and they didn't have me down for an appointment.

Disappointed I started getting regular gel nails, trying a lot of the salons in my surrounding area I finally found a place and a nail tech that just did a beautiful job every time and I usually trust her to pick my nail color that varies between pink and nude, sometimes black, lol. Now my favorite color is called Sugar Daddy or Spaghettis Strap by Essie Gel, I love OPI Gel as well, they also use a brand called DND at my nail salon that is numbers so that is hard for me to tell you which ones I use. When I get my nails done short like nail bed length I go for round, when they start growing a bit I keep them square and once they have grown a bit more I ask for almond shape. I do not like them pointy but I also do not want them thick at the base giving them more of a round look. Now how long they last me is always between 4-6 Weeks, you heard me. I hate going to the nail salon but I love being there once I am there. To grow them to the length I like it takes about three months. I timed it this quarantine since I cut my nails down to the snub. I very rarely break a nail and refuse to get a fake one unless I have a special event. The key to not breaking a nail is to be very careful with them once they are wet as that is when they are at their weakest and most bendy, if you feel any sort of catching file it down immediately and patch it with clear varnish, layers! Be sure when they putting gel on your nails that they put a base coat down and at least two coats of color then a top coat, anything less and your nails will not last as long or be as strong. Now when they remove the gel they should wrap them in foil and cotton let it sit then gently remove the gel, they should not be filing down your own nail thinning it out as they go as this will weaken your nails in the long run and they will end up breaking.

Something I had to learn the hard way was to speak up, now as an introvert and people pleaser this is hard for me, but if I can do it you can too! If you don't like the color change it, if you don't like the shape ask them to change it, if you are hurting let them know remember if you don't speak for yourself no one else will! Know I hope I have been helpful and if you are interested to go where I go in the Santa Monica area send me a DM on Instagram and I'll let you know I just don't want it to be too busy I always recommend them and they are very busy now!
